At least 4 drown, 3 missing during New Year celebrations in southeast Brazil

SAO PAULO, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least four people have drowned and three others remain missing after entering the sea at resorts in Brazil's southeastern state of Sao Paulo during New Year celebrations, the local fire department said Friday.

In a preliminary report, the department detailed that the deaths were recorded between Dec. 31, 2025 and Jan. 1, 2026 in the seaside cities of Guaruja, Praia Grande and Bertioga.

Search efforts have begun for the three bathers who were missing in Praia Grande, Bertioga and Itanhaem.
