CARACAS, April 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. carrier American Airlines said Thursday that it plans to resume flights to Venezuela as soon as April 30, pending government approvals and security clearances.
The airline intends to operate daily nonstop service between Miami and Caracas using Embraer 175 aircraft, the company said in a news release.
American Airlines said it continues to work closely with regulators to restore the direct service, and schedules would be finalized once all government approvals and security checks are completed.
Nate Gatten, executive vice president of the airline, said the company is encouraged by progress made with both governments.
Commercial passenger flights between the two countries were suspended in May 2019 after the U.S. Department of Transportation ordered all flights between the two countries halted, citing security concerns related to the situation in Venezuela.
Resumption of the service would mark the first restoration of commercial passenger flights between the two countries since 2019.
