RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Benfica forward David Neres has been added to Brazil's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay, the Brazilian Football Confederation said on Monday.

The 26-year-old replaces Barcelona winger Raphinha, who suffered a hamstring injury in the Catalan club's 1-0 home win over Sevilla on Friday.

Neres has scored once in seven appearances for Brazil since his international debut in 2019.

Brazil will host Venezuela in Cuiaba on October 12 before facing Uruguay in Montevideo five days later.

The five-time world champions began their qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup with victories over Bolivia and Peru last month.
