Argentina's domestic trade secretary resigns

24 May 2022, 16:44 GMT+10

BUENOS AIRES, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's secretary of Domestic Trade, Roberto Feletti, resigned on Monday amid structural changes to the economic cabinet as part of the government's stepped-up fight against inflation.

"I have submitted my resignation from the position of Secretary of Domestic Trade. I thank President Alberto Fernandez for his confidence, and the ministers (of Productive Development) Matias Kulfas and (of Economy) Martin Guzman for their always professional and respectful treatment," Feletti tweeted in a letter.

As part of the changes, the Secretariat of Domestic Trade, key to battling inflation, will become part of the Economy Ministry.

"The transfer of the Secretariat of Domestic Trade from the Productive Development Ministry to the Economy Ministry opens a new stage, in which the latter will be in charge of economic policy in a comprehensive manner, incorporating into its orbit pricing policy and other missions and functions related to the Secretariat that I headed up to now," Feletti said in the letter.

Feletti, who has led the Secretariat of Domestic Trade since Oct. 12, 2021, will be replaced by Guillermo Hang, current director of the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA), state news agency Telam said.

"Hang, with a long career in public office, worked in different areas of the Economy Ministry between 2008 and 2015," Telam said.
