LONDON, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tottenham coach Nuno Espiritu Santo has big problems ahead of Sunday's Premier League visit to Newcastle after it was confirmed that two players have tested positive for COVID-19 and will need to spend 10 days in quarantine.
The two unnamed players are reported to have trained with the squad on Thursday, but subsequent tests showed them to have the virus and although they will be re-tested on Saturday, they will miss Sunday's game, as well as a Europa League tie on Thursday and next weekend's derby with West Ham United.
The absences come at the worst possible time for Nuno given that the club's four South American players, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal all played for their countries in the early hours of Friday morning and will only join the rest of the squad this Saturday.
Speaking to the press on Friday, before the players had returned to England, Nuno refused to rule out of Sunday's match.
"They will join us tomorrow and then we'll see... The reports that we have is that they finished their games well. Some of them played 90 minutes, Davinson Sanchez no, but what we are expecting is for them to join us and then we'll see," he said.
Sunday promises to be a difficult game for the side currently sitting eighth in the Premier League as it will be the first since the Saudi takeover of Newcastle United and an expectant full house is expected at St James Park for the match.
