RIO DE JANEIRO, July 24 (Xinhua) -- An own goal from defender Manoel Carvalho gifted Palmeiras a 1-0 victory over Fluminense on Saturday as Brazil's Serie A leaders extended their league winning streak to seven games.

After a first half with few scoring opportunities, Palmeiras broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when Carvalho stuck out his left leg in an attempt to clear a Raphael Veiga cross, only to see the ball deflect into the net.

The result at Allianz Parque leaves Palmeiras six points clear of second-placed Atletico Mineiro, who have a game in hand. Fluminense are ninth, 14 points off the pace.

In Saturday's only other Brazilian top flight fixture, a Felipe Azevedo goal canceled out an early strike Guilherme Guedes as America Mineiro drew 1-1 at Gremio.

Gremio remain 19th in the 20-team standings with seven points from 11 outings, three points behind 18th-placed America.
