RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A stoppage-time goal from substitute Aldemir Ferreira earned Gremio a 1-1 home draw with Palmeiras in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Ferreira, who replaced former Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva just after the hour mark, struck in the 92nd minute with a glancing header after an Alisson de Freitas corner.
Rafael Veiga had put the visitors ahead by latching on to a Matias Vina cross with a low finish in the 71st minute.
The result at Arena do Gremio in the southern city of Porto Alegre left Gremio 12th in the 20-team standings with 13 points from 10 matches. Palmeiras rose two places to fourth with 18 points.
Meanwhile, Sport Recife continued their impressive recent form with a 1-0 home victory over Fluminense. Former Flamengo striker Hernane scored from the penalty spot after Leandro Barcia was brought down by Egidio Pereira.
Sport have secured three wins and a draw from their past five matches and are now 10th in the standings with 14 points, trailing Fluminense on goal difference.
In Rio de Janeiro, Botafogo recorded their seventh draw in 10 matches this season after a goalless affair with Santos at the Olympic stadium. The result left Botafogo 18th and Santos seventh.
In Sunday's only other fixture, Vasco da Gama missed the chance to stay in touch with leaders Atletico Mineiro after a 1-0 defeat at Coritiba. Robson Fernandes struck the winner from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.
Vasco are now fifth with 17 points while Coritiba are 16th, six points further back.
