SAO PAULO -- At least 12 people were killed and another was seriously injured on Sunday when a truck collided with a passenger van along a highway in Patos de Minas, a town in Brazil's southeast state of Minas Gerais.

According to the Federal Highway Police in Minas Gerais, the van carrying farm workers drove into the opposite lane as it tried to clear a tree that had fallen on the road from grassland fires in the area, causing the crash. (Brazil-Truck-Collision)

HOUSTON -- A small plane crashed in U.S. state of Texas on Sunday, killing four people on board, according to media reports.

Local media quoted an official from Texas Department of Public Safety as saying that two men and two women were killed when their plane crashed shortly before 11 a.m. near Hilltop Lakes Airport, about 200 kilometers northwest of Houston. (US-Plane Crash-Death)

HOUSTON -- The National Weather Service on Sunday issued a Flash Flood Watch for U.S. Houston area from Sunday through Tuesday as tropical storm Beta continued moving slowly towards the Gulf Coast.

According to forecast, prolonged heavy rain from Beta will have the potential to produce 38 to 50 centimeters of water along the Gulf Coast and around 20 to 38 centimeters of water inland. (US-Hurricane-Flood)

MANILA -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck Surigao del Sur province in the southern Philippines early on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said.

The institute said the offshore quake, which struck at 6:13 a.m. local time, hit at a depth of 77 km, about 66 km northeast of Bayabas town on Mindanao island. (Philippines-Earthquake)
